Yetgeul › About

What Yetgeul is

East Asian classics, the Chinese original and a modern translation side by side — and in the app, read aloud. 61 books are in it so far.

Where the original texts come from

Only public-domain editions are used — Wikisource (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Sanskrit) and open collections such as those of the National Institute of Korean History. Each book names its source edition at the foot of the page. Editions restricted to non-commercial use are not used.

Who did the translating

Yetgeul translated them itself (AI-assisted). Existing published translations are under copyright and not a line was taken from them. Each translation is checked character by character against the source text. Even so it is not suitable for scholarly citation: for a paper or a lecture, go to the original and to academic translations.

Conflicting records

Places where Korean, Chinese and Japanese histories record the same event differently are set side by side. You can read them under the app menu item for conflicting records.
