Song Shu Yiman Zhuan (Accounts of the Yi and Man Peoples in the Book of Song) Complete in one volume The neighbours across the sea as the Song of the Southern dynasties saw them. Here are the tribute of Go Ryeon, King Jangsu of Goguryeo, and the affair of Feng Hong; the notice of Baekje taking Liaoxi; the memorials of the five kings of Wa — Chan, Jin, Je, Heung and Mu; and the memorials that the many kingdoms of the Southern Sea sent up out of their faith in the Buddha, down to Huilin's Treatise on Equal Goodness — the record of the sea roads of the fifth century.

1Preface

南夷、西南夷,大抵在交州之南及西南,居大海中洲上,相去或三五千里,遠者二三萬里,乘舶舉帆,道里不可詳知。外國諸夷雖言里數,非定實也。

The Southern Yi and the Southwestern Yi lie for the most part to the south and southwest of Jiaozhou. They live on islands in the midst of the great sea. Some are three or five thousand li apart, and the far ones twenty or thirty thousand li. Men go by ship with sails raised, so the li of the road cannot be known in detail. The many Yi of the outer kingdoms do speak of a number of li, but it is not fixed and real.
