Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 2 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.
三鉞門高未易階。多君不拒幅巾來。甕中有蟻催開閣。壁上無蛇穩送杯。七相古墳唯碧草。五侯舊宅謾蒼苔。請君對月莫辭飮。到海黃河不復廻。
The gate of the three axes is high and not easy to climb yet I thank you that you do not bar the coming of one in a plain kerchief Ants float on the jar, so we press to have it opened and there is no snake on the wall, so the cup is passed at ease At the old graves of the seven chief ministers there is only green grass at the old houses of the five lords, to no purpose, only green moss I beg you, do not decline to drink facing the moon the Yellow River, once it has reached the sea, never comes back
