Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 4 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.
The Minghuang zalu says: The woman musician Xie Aman (謝阿蠻) was skilled at the dance of "Lingbo (凌波曲)" and went in and out of the palace and of the houses of the several aunts, and the Consort treated her very warmly. As the Emperor was coming back from Shu he passed the Huaqing Palace (華淸宮) and had her summoned. Aman brought out a precious ring of gold millet and presented it, saying, "This is what the Honored Consort gave me." The Emperor held it in his hand and stroked it, and before he knew it he let his tears fall.
國破楊妃一笑姿。鑾輿播越是因誰。不曾懲創當時事。更對遺環雪泣悲。
What broke the state was the look of Consort Yang's one smile;
then whose fault was it that the Emperor's carriage was driven into flight?
He had taken no warning in time from the doings of those days,
and now again he faces the ring she left and sheds tears and grieves.
