Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 4 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

The Xuanzong yilu says: The Emperor said to Lishi, "Ever since I gave up the Consort, even my dreams are far off. I should set my heart in order and take plain food, and I ought to have somewhere fit to pray." And indeed his dream answered him. In the dream he came to a place where mist and evening glow lay over ten thousand valleys and flowers and trees stood on a thousand peaks; there were waves that filled the eye and scenery of startling beauty, blue mist and red vapor. The steps were laid with white jade, and in letters written in gold it said "First Palace of the Eastern Void (東虛第一宮)." Then a boy in green robes led the way before him, and they came to a court (院) on which was written "Court of Taiyi Taizhen, Primal High Consort (太一大眞元上妃院)." Consort Taizhen sat with a screen of mica between them, so that her form could not be seen and only her voice was heard. The Emperor said, "I wish to see your heavenly form just once; why do you let this screen stand in the way? It seems not to be the mind of the love we bore each other of old." Then the Consort showed half of herself. Dimly, as though newly adorned, her old brightness was faint upon her. The Emperor looked once and leapt for joy, and went forward and took her hand; and at his feet a startling wind rose, and it was as though he were falling out of the sky.

縹緲煙霞紫翠重。仙童導入大眞宮。依俙一見嚴粧面。淸夢驚來若墮空。

Far-off mist and evening glow lay folded, red and blue, and an immortal boy led him into the Palace of Taizhen. Dimly he saw once a face beautifully adorned, and he started awake from the clear dream as though falling out of the void.
