Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 5 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

禁林淸地是西臺。謝脁閑吟上砌苔。一萬古風丞相系。三千詩筆翰林才。紫微宮裏朝天罷。玄圃園中逐乘來。我亦文平門下客。莫嫌桃李隔年開。

The clear post in the palace grove is none other than the Western Terrace (西臺), and Xie Tiao (謝脁), chanting at his leisure, climbs the moss of the steps. Your ancient bearing out of all the ages is the blood of a chancellor, and the brush of three thousand poems is the talent of an academician. Within the Palace of Purple Tenuity you finish the audience, and into the garden of Xuanpu (玄圃) you come following the carriage. I too am a guest from the school of Duke Munpyeong (文平公), so do not dislike it that the peach and the plum blossom in alternate years.
