Presented to Vice Chancellor Choe Dang上崔平章讜
某伏聞相國閣下於趙令公座上。大加稱賞。喜不自勝。謹著今體詩云云。
I humbly hear that Your Excellency the Chancellor praised me greatly at the seat of His Excellency Jo; unable to master my joy, I have humbly composed a poem in the present-day form (今體詩).

五色毛生穴。三珠樹接枝。弟兄雙拜相。今古罕同時。蒼玉初承寵。黃扉旋躐資。陰陽歸燮理。社稷寄安危。靜似成蹊李。端宜飣座梨。豹文無誤對。亥字判羣疑。雷電扶韓手。陽秋備褚皮。吹噓餘論美。攀附幾人馳。我是諸生憲。嘗干太尉熹。感公同見賞。似昔早相知。爲惜塩車困。期將玉鎖縻。歸來猶夢寐。銘刻在心肌。同輩皆翔驟。吾生大嶮𡾟。久爲莊轍鮒。空羨魯梁雌。淚眼餘三泣。歌聲發五噫。深坑無計出。長綆肯誰施。濩落從人棄。揶揄任鬼欺。幸粧嫫母面。已識紫芝眉。頭角那長縮。心肝會一披。天高難自達。願綴薦衡辭。
Five-coloured fur comes forth from the burrow, and the tree of three jewels has joined its branches. Brothers bow side by side as ministers of state; in old times and now, such a thing at one moment is rare. With green jade he first received favour, and at the Yellow Gate at once leapt over the grades. Yin and yang return to his even governing; the altars of state have entrusted him with their peace and peril. Still as a plum tree that has made a path, fit as a pear set out upon the mat. The leopard's markings are never met with by mistake, and with the character hae (亥) he settles the many doubts. Thunder and lightning take hold of Han Yu's hand, and the brush-law of the Spring and Autumn has the hide of the Chu (褚). Fair is the remnant of discourse you breathed out for me; how many have run to catch hold and climb by it? I am the Yuan Xian among the many students, who once waited upon Defender-in-Chief Zhao Xi. Moved that His Excellency joined in esteeming me, it is as though we had known each other long before. Pitying the toil of the salt-cart, you promised to bind me with a jade lock. Coming home I dream of it still; what is graven stands in my heart and flesh. My fellows have all soared and galloped, and my life alone is greatly rough and steep. Long have I been the carp in Zhuangzi's wheel-rut, vainly envying the hens of Lu and Liang. With tearful eyes I weep my three weepings, and in song I give out my five sighs. From the deep pit there is no way out; who would gladly let down a long well-rope? Fallen away, I follow men's casting me off, and leave my mockery to the ghosts. Luckily I adorn the face of Momu (嫫母), and already I have known the brows of Zizhi (紫芝). How should head and horn be drawn in for ever? Heart and liver shall have a day to open out. The sky is high and hard to reach of myself; I beg to be appended to the writing that recommended Zhang Heng (張衡).

The Chancellor entered the ministry of state and his younger brother the Privy Council, while only his elder brother stopped at Minister of Rites.
自尙書直入省。故云。
From Minister he went straight into the Department (省), and so I said this.
杜詩云。諸生原憲貧。
Du Fu's poem has the line, "Among the many students Yuan Xian is poor."
指言趙令公。後漢趙熹爲太尉。
This is said pointing to His Excellency Jo. Zhao Xi (趙熹) of the Later Han became Defender-in-Chief.
