Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Latter Collection, Book 2 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

Robed in mountain-mulberry yellow, he goes before the shrine and takes up the jade cup, and as a treasure in his pouch he has hidden a numinous scripture. Honoring scholars, they fill the Terrace of Yellow Gold (黃金臺), and it is the figure of a chief minister blending the flavors above the cauldron. Chrysanthemums bloom on the frosted slope at dawn, and reeds are broken at the dew-wet autumn shoal. Rice ears are tangled like shrimp whiskers, and locust blossoms fall like the ears of mice. The muddy Yellow River runs through to the River of Heaven, and the Yellow Road (黃道) passes the bright stars. Wine of a gosling's color I tip often into the bowl, and the golden sheep lamp lights the screen brightly. The oriole seeks the flowers a little late, and the bee, sucking at the wine, comes sober again. Lovely playing left the beating-board behind for long, and a tangerine weighed on the scales happens to fall in the yard. Exquisite phrases are exceedingly rare, and how should the song "Robe of Golden Threads" (金縷衣) ever cease? The text that says "greatly auspicious" is worth savoring, and the virtue of the Doctrine of the Mean (中庸) is worth engraving. It has wholly made up the oriole's plumage, and deeply it yields to the plumes of the jeolji (竊脂). The golden tortoise seal brings glory to the village, and the golden cock pole, by edict, looses men from punishment. The gown of the Yellow Gate (黃門) takes charge of the duties within, and the tribute tangerines come across the folded seas. The dragon came bearing the chart on its back and offered it in splendor, and the sparrow held a ring in its beak and showed forth its numen. The black of Kan (坎) returns to what it governs, and the green of Zhen (震) seems about to be ground on the whetstone. Of the boxwood's affliction in the intercalary month I have long heard tell, and how could I bear to hear the "Song of Yellow Bamboo" (黃竹歌)? Steeped in mud, it plasters the halls of temples, and following the gilding it adorns jars and bottles. His name hung up at the Jagak (雌閣) shines, so why worry that he may not go up in the green history?
