Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Latter Collection, Book 2 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.
In days past, when I roamed in the south, my hemp clothes were coarse
And in hard times it was you alone who made up my want out of your having
White-haired, we served in one office, and our feeling is warmest of all
Among those who have shared affection a whole life long, who comes before me
Interlinear notes 1
When he was in his home district I went there and roamed with him.
I am lazy as Xi Kang (嵇康), and coarse besides
And a nature like an open field is better away from the court
I only pray that you, worthy sir, will cherish and nurture yourself the more
And aid the king as Guan Zhong (管仲) did
Old and failing, how should a rough high spirit rise in me again
The taste of the world is bleak, swept away as if at one stroke
Then I remember the days of my youth when I drank like a madman
And going by night, held up by others, broke the curfew of the Capital Guard (金吾)
Rivers and mountains do not shun an old man with hair all white
So where would be good to seek fine views and feel out secluded places
We have already promised to climb the new fortress and gaze afar
So just carry the wine flask along and do not ask after the wine's taste

Earlier he came and said, "A fortress has been newly built by the sea, grand enough to be worth seeing," wishing to go roaming together; hence this line.
