On Dano, Watching the Women's Swing Game (端午。見鞦韆女戱。)端午。見鞦韆女戱。
Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Latter Collection, Book 3 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.
推似神娥奔月去。返如仙女下天來。仰看跳上方流汗。頃刻飄然又却迴。
Pushed upward, she is like Chang'e fleeing to the moon; returning, like an immortal maiden coming down from the sky. Looking up to watch her leap, I at once break into sweat, and in a moment, with a bound, she is back again.
Interlinear notes 1
國俗。必端午作此戱。
In our custom this game is always played on Dano.
莫言仙女下從天。來往如梭定不然。應是黃鸎擇佳樹。飛來飛去自翩翩。
Do not say an immortal maiden is coming down from the sky; she goes and comes like a weaver's shuttle, so it is surely not that. Perhaps it is a yellow oriole choosing a good tree, flying in and flying off, fluttering freely of itself.
