Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Latter Collection, Book 10 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

壇宇寬於大海涵。窮閻猶許扣門三。盤筵草草供談笑。別後那堪顙泚慙。

The monk's capacity is more generous than what the great sea takes in, yet he has knocked three times at my gate in this out-of-the-way village. My board and mat are so meager they serve only for laughing and talking; after we parted, how could I bear the shame that beaded my brow with sweat?

Interlinear notes 1

三首

Three poems.

饒君酒膽似河涵。呷呷含杯未過三。每到携壺連醉我。追思狂態得無慙。

Your capacity for wine is ample, as though you held a river in your mouth, yet you sip and hold the cup and do not pass three cups. Each time you come you bring a bottle and make me drunk again and again; when I think afterward of my mad behavior, how can I be unashamed?

家池不久碧成涵。池上才容客四三。要趁此時邀與飮。不來無奈厚吾慙。

The pond at my house will before long be green and brimming, and its bank is barely wide enough to seat three or four guests. I mean to take that time to invite you and drink together; if you will not come, what shall I do but let my shame grow thicker?

Interlinear notes 1

家有泉。必此時湧出盈池。今未爾。

There is a spring at my house. It will surely well up at this season and fill the pond, but it has not yet done so.
