Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Latter Collection, Book 11 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

大風所吹。萬殊同受。何一竹中。有動與不。一叢困風。搖簸不息。一叢自若。植植其直。有如二人。同學于禪。一人懸悟。心已慹然。一猶未爾。群動坌起。返聞聞性。動靜迺已。

What the great wind blows upon all the myriad other things receive alike yet how, within one bamboo grove is there what moves and what does not move? One clump, harried by the wind is shaken and tossed and cannot rest one clump is unperturbed standing firm and straight It is as if two men were learning Zen (禪) together and one of them, awakened clear through has a mind already sunk in stillness while the other is not yet so and every stirring rises in him all at once Turn the hearing back and hear the nature that hears and moving and stillness will come to an end
