Jingang Jing (The Diamond Sutra) Complete in one volume "All marks that exist are empty and false" — a sutra that teaches one to give rise to the mind without dwelling anywhere. It follows, just as they stand, the thirty-two sections into which Prince Zhaoming divided it. It is told that Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, heard one line of this sutra and set his heart on awakening.

1Being Despised Melts Away Evil Karma

"Furthermore, Subhuti! Suppose a good man or a good woman takes up and keeps this sutra, reading and reciting it, and yet is despised by others. The evil karma of that person's former lives should have brought them down into the evil paths, but because they are despised by others in this life, the evil karma of their former lives is wiped away, and they will attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi."

Interlinear notes 1

Be pure, and the hindrances of karma all melt away.

2Merit No Reckoning Can Reach

"Subhuti! I remember that through measureless asamkhya kalpas in the past, with Dipamkara Buddha, I met eight hundred and four thousand myriads of millions of nayutas of Buddhas, and I made offerings to them all and served them all, letting none pass by in vain. Yet if in the last age to come someone can take up and keep this sutra, reading and reciting it, then set against the merit that person gains, the merit of all my offerings to those Buddhas is not one part in a hundred, nor one part in a thousand myriads of millions, and no reckoning or parable can reach it."

3Its Fruit Too Is Beyond Thought

"Subhuti! If in the last age to come a good man or a good woman takes up and keeps this sutra, reading and reciting it, and I were to speak in full of the merit they gain, some who heard it would go mad in their minds and waver in doubt and not believe. Subhuti! Know this: the meaning of this sutra is beyond thought, and the fruit it brings is beyond thought as well!"
