Jingang Jing (The Diamond Sutra) Complete in one volume "All marks that exist are empty and false" — a sutra that teaches one to give rise to the mind without dwelling anywhere. It follows, just as they stand, the thirty-two sections into which Prince Zhaoming divided it. It is told that Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, heard one line of this sutra and set his heart on awakening.
1Can He Be Seen by His Perfect Form-Body?
"Subhuti! What do you think? Can the Buddha be seen by his perfect form-body (具足色身)?"
Interlinear notes 1
Form and mark are all false. Leave the false, and you see your nature.
2Perfect Form-Body Is Only Its Name
"No, World-Honored One! The Tathagata should not be seen by his perfect form-body. Why is this? Because the perfect form-body the Tathagata speaks of is not a perfect form-body; that is only its name."
3Can He Be Seen by All His Perfect Marks?
"Subhuti! What do you think? Can the Tathagata be seen by all his perfect marks?"
4Perfect in All Marks Is Only Its Name
"No, World-Honored One! The Tathagata should not be seen by all his perfect marks. Why is this? Because being perfect in all marks, as the Tathagata speaks of it, is not perfection; that is only its name."
