Section 27 — Neither cut off nor extinguished無斷無滅分第二十七
Jingang Jing (The Diamond Sutra) Complete in one volume "All marks that exist are empty and false" — a sutra that teaches one to give rise to the mind without dwelling anywhere. It follows, just as they stand, the thirty-two sections into which Prince Zhaoming divided it. It is told that Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, heard one line of this sutra and set his heart on awakening.
1Do Not Think That Either
「須菩提!汝若作是念:『如來不以具足相故,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。』須菩提!莫作是念:『如來不以具足相故,得阿耨多羅三藐三菩提。』」
"Subhuti! If you think, 'The Tathagata attained anuttara-samyak-sambodhi because he is not complete in marks' — Subhuti! Do not think, 'The Tathagata attained anuttara-samyak-sambodhi because he is not complete in marks.'"
Interlinear notes 1
依法修持,不應斷滅
Rely on the Dharma and cultivate it, but do not say that it is cut off and gone.
2Do Not Say That the Dharmas Are Cut Off
「須菩提!汝若作是念,發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心者,說諸法斷滅。莫作是念!何以故?發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心者。於法不說斷滅相。」
"Subhuti! If you think that one who sets their mind on anuttara-samyak-sambodhi says that all dharmas are cut off and extinguished (斷滅) — do not think so! Why is this? Because one who sets their mind on anuttara-samyak-sambodhi does not speak of any dharma as having the mark of being cut off and extinguished."
