Jingang Jing (The Diamond Sutra) Complete in one volume "All marks that exist are empty and false" — a sutra that teaches one to give rise to the mind without dwelling anywhere. It follows, just as they stand, the thirty-two sections into which Prince Zhaoming divided it. It is told that Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, heard one line of this sutra and set his heart on awakening.

1If Anyone Says He Spoke of the Four Views

「須菩提!若人言:佛說我見、人見、眾生見、壽者見。須菩提!於意云何?是人解我所說義不?」

"Subhuti! If anyone says that the Buddha spoke of the view of a self (我見), the view of a person (人見), the view of a being (眾生見), and the view of a life span (壽者見) — Subhuti, what do you think? Has that person understood the meaning of what I say?"

Interlinear notes 1

如此知見,法相不生

Know and see in this way, and the mark of a dharma does not arise.

2That Is Only the Name the View of a Self, the View of a Person

「不也,世尊!是人不解如來所說義。何以故?世尊說我見、人見、眾生見、壽者見,即非我見、人見、眾生見、壽者見,是名我見、人見、眾生見、壽者見。」

"No, World-Honored One! That person has not understood the meaning of what the Tathagata says. Why is this? Because the view of a self, the view of a person, the view of a being, and the view of a life span that the World-Honored One speaks of are not the view of a self, the view of a person, the view of a being, or the view of a life span; that is only the name the view of a self, the view of a person, the view of a being, and the view of a life span."

3Do Not Give Rise to the Mark of a Dharma

「須菩提!發阿耨多羅三藐三菩提心者,於一切法,應如是知,如是見,如是信解,不生法相。須菩提!所言法相者,如來說即非法相,是名法相。」

"Subhuti! One who sets their mind on anuttara-samyak-sambodhi should, with regard to all dharmas, know in this way, see in this way, and believe and understand in this way, and should not give rise to the mark of a dharma. Subhuti! What is called the mark of a dharma the Tathagata says is not the mark of a dharma; that is only the name the mark of a dharma."
