Jingbirok (A Record of Rebuke and Admonition) Book 6 — The Record of Jinsa A record left by Ryu Seong-ryong, Chief State Councillor, of what he saw with his own eyes after the Imjin War ended. Its title comes from the line, "I rebuke what is past, and take heed against troubles to come." He set down without excuse how the war began and what the court failed to do. His recommendation of Yi Sun-sin, the wrangling with the Ming army, and the suffering the people endured are all recorded as they were.

The circumstances of the Ming troops' withdrawal your servant has already set forth in a dispatch. Victory and defeat are the common lot of soldiering, yet the Ming commanders were not without a mind that made light of the enemy, and so it came to this; it is deeply grievous and lamentable.

As for having the grain of the three districts shipped to Cheongnyongpo (靑龍浦), this was arranged at the outset because we supposed the Ming troops would advance straight on and cross the river, and feared that provisions along the road ahead would be hard to keep up. Now that matters stand as they do, it is hard to fix beforehand whether the time for raising the army will come early or late. Your servant has therefore sent a dispatch to Kim Sinwon (金信元) bidding him weigh the situation and deal with it.

Judging from what the Ming men say, the troops of Commander Yang (楊總兵) seem likely to come on in succession. The provisions south of Uiju must also be further prepared before they can be supplied. There is nothing to be gained by your servant's remaining here, so he plans to watch the situation again and then advance or withdraw.
