Receiving the Royal Directive有。旨祇受狀

Your servant received together at Anju (安州) the royal directive sealed with the official seal by the Fourth Royal Secretary on the twenty-fourth day of last month and the royal directive sealed with the official seal by the Fourth Royal Secretary on the twenty-fifth. As to the matter therein, that he should weigh and plan and not lose the opportunity, your servant will deliberate with the Supreme Commander and dispose of it.

Of late the urgent reports come in from Junghwa (中和), Hwangju (黃州) and such places all say that the enemy soldiers are coming down one after another, and what their vicious design aims at will surely not prove empty. Moreover, the camp west of Junghwa has newly been overrun, and the enemy's temper grows the more arrogant. The condition of this day is more perilous with each day than the last. We ought to settle upon a plan early and seek life in the midst of death; we must not linger long, drawing out the days, and sit waiting for utter ruin. This may be known without waiting upon a wise man.

Last month the several commanders had some mind to advance and strike, but just then the commanders were changed, and there was besides the coming and going of the Ming officer over the making of peace, so that it was put off again. Now Yi Il (李鎰) and Jeong Huihyeon (鄭希賢) and the rest have each been at their camps some days already, and are now making their dispositions and setting out their engagements anew. Once the engagements are a little settled, it seems there cannot but be some action raised when an opening is seen.

Only, what your servant is anxious about is this: from autumn until now the soldiers and people everywhere have looked daily for the Ming troops, and as they have long not arrived, the common mind cannot but grow a little slack. He fears too that the day of the Brigade Commander's return may fall in with the time of the action and draw it back and bar it again; and so his oppressed cares run in ten thousand strands.
