Jingbirok (A Record of Rebuke and Admonition) Book 9 — The Record of Jinsa A record left by Ryu Seong-ryong, Chief State Councillor, of what he saw with his own eyes after the Imjin War ended. Its title comes from the line, "I rebuke what is past, and take heed against troubles to come." He set down without excuse how the war began and what the court failed to do. His recommendation of Yi Sun-sin, the wrangling with the Ming army, and the suffering the people endured are all recorded as they were.

In the urgent report of the aide Kim Sinwon (金信元): on that day at the hour of sa he reached the rear post station of Gangbogwon (降福院), and the Ming commanders had already joined battle and were striking the wall on all four sides, the sound of the cannon being like thunder and like a thunderbolt. In the urgent report of the scouting officer Yi Gyemyeong (李繼命) towards the end of the hour of sa: the Ming troops had broken through the Chilseong Gate and gone in, and our troops had gone in by the Hamgu Gate, and they were at present fighting hand to hand.

It seems that the one walled city of Pyeongyang has already been recovered, and unable to master his joy and his sense of good fortune your servant humbly reports it urgently first of all. Your servant plans now to go forward to Sunan (順安) and keep a close hand upon the army grain and such matters so as to supply them. As for moving the Ming provisions, he begs again that it be urgently disposed of.
