Jingbirok (A Record of Rebuke and Admonition) Book 16 — The Military Headquarters Register A record left by Ryu Seong-ryong, Chief State Councillor, of what he saw with his own eyes after the Imjin War ended. Its title comes from the line, "I rebuke what is past, and take heed against troubles to come." He set down without excuse how the war began and what the court failed to do. His recommendation of Yi Sun-sin, the wrangling with the Ming army, and the suffering the people endured are all recorded as they were.
數年經營只成無用之空言去者如斯來者復然千古萬古增志士之一慨今年自家雪裡凍死未知明年甚人喫大椀不托耳
The managing of a few years has come to nothing but useless empty words. What goes is thus, and what comes will be so too; through a thousand ages and ten thousand it will only add to the sighs of scholars who have a mind. This year this body of mine freezes to death in the snow, and I do not know what man will be eating sujebi from a great bowl next year.
Interlinear notes 1
Bultak (不托) is baktak (餺飥), a dish of wheat dough kneaded and torn into boiling water, that is, sujebi.
