Gaozong, the founding ancestor of the Southern Song, was a son of Huizong. In the first year of Jingkang he was away on a commission, and when the two young emperors, Huizong and Qinzong, were taken captive, Zhang Bangchang urged him forward with a letter in the hand of Empress Dowager Xiaomeng, and he ascended the throne at the city of Guide. He set his capital at Jinling. His first year was the dingwei year, which was the sixth year of our Yejong. From Gaozong down to the boy ruler there were seven rulers in all, one hundred and fifty-three years. The boy ruler came in to serve in the sixteenth year of Zhiyuan.

7Vassal states are not recorded
自古及今附庸者, 反與外國蠻夷類.
From of old down to now, the states that became vassals (附庸) are counted instead with the barbarians of foreign lands (蠻夷).
8Why they are not all recorded
各國其地分錙銖, 不在此限皆不記.
The states whose share of land is no bigger than a scale mark fall outside this bound, and so none of them are recorded.
