2Plague breaks out and the god of Miwa is served
In the reign of this emperor plague broke out again and again, and the people were dying out. The emperor grieved and lamented, and on a night when he lay on the god's couch, Ohomononushi no Ohokami (大物主大神) appeared in his dream and said, "This is my will. So if you have Ohotataneko (意富多多泥古) serve before me, the anger of the god will not rise, and the land will be at peace."
So post riders were sent to the four quarters to seek the man called Ohotataneko, and in the village of Mino (美努村) in Kawachi (河内) they found him and brought him up.
The emperor asked him, "Whose son are you?"
He answered, "Ohomononushi no Ohokami took to wife Ikutamayoribime (活玉依毗賣), the daughter of Suetsumimi no Mikoto (陶津耳命), and the son born was named Kushimikata no Mikoto (櫛御方命). His son was Iikatasumi no Mikoto (飯肩巣見命), and his son was Takemikazuchi no Mikoto (建甕槌命). I am his son Ohotataneko."
The emperor rejoiced greatly and said, "All under heaven will be level, and the people will flourish."
At once he made Ohotataneko no Mikoto the master of the rites (神主), and had him offer worship before the great god of Ohomiwa (意富美和之大神) on Mount Mimoro (御諸山).
He also commanded Ikagashikoo no Mikoto (伊迦賀色許男命) to make the eighty ritual vessels of heaven (天之八十毗羅訶), and to fix and serve the shrines of the gods of heaven and the gods of earth.
He also offered a red shield and a red spear to Sumisaka no Kami (墨坂神) of Uda (宇陀), and a black shield and a black spear to Ohosaka no Kami (大坂神), and to the gods of the mountain passes and the gods of the river rapids he offered cloth gifts, leaving out not one.
By this the breath of the plague ceased entirely, and the land was at peace.
This is how it came to be known that the man called Ohotataneko was the child of a god.
Ikutamayoribime, spoken of above, was fair and comely in form. Now there was a man of divine bearing whose form and manner had no equal in that time. In the middle of the night he came of a sudden. So they were drawn to each other, and while they lived together, before long that lovely woman was with child.
Her father and mother thought it strange that she was with child, and asked their daughter, "Are you with child of yourself? You have no husband. How is it that you are with child?"
She answered, "There is a beautiful man, but I do not know his family name. Every evening he comes, and while we live together I have come to be with child of myself."
So her father and mother, wishing to know who the man was, told their daughter, "Scatter red earth before your bed, thread a needle with hemp yarn from the reel, and pin it to the hem of his robe."
She did as they taught her, and when she looked in the morning, the hemp thread with the needle in it had passed out through the hook hole of the door, and the yarn left behind was only three coils.
So she knew that he had gone out through the hook hole, and following the thread she came to Mount Miwa (美和山), where it stopped at the shrine of the god. So they knew that he was the child of that god.
Because three coils of that hemp were left, the place is called Miwa (美和).

Again in this reign Ohobiko no Mikoto was sent by the road of Koshi (高志), and his son Takenunakawawake no Mikoto was sent to the twelve roads of the east, to make level the matsurowanu — the people who would not submit. Hikoimasu no Miko was also sent to the land of Taniwa (旦波國) to kill Kugamimi no Mikasa (玖賀耳之御笠).
When Ohobiko no Mikoto was setting out for the land of Koshi, a young girl with a skirt about her waist stood on the Herasaka (幣羅坂) of Yamashiro (山代) and sang this song:

5Takehaniyasu is struck down and the land made level
At this Ohobiko no Mikoto thought it strange, turned his horse back, and asked the girl, "What is this you have said?"
The girl answered, "I said nothing at all. I only sang a song." Then where she went could not be seen, and she vanished of a sudden.
Ohobiko no Mikoto went back up and reported to the emperor, and the emperor answered and said, "This is only a sign that my elder half-brother Takehaniyasu no Miko (建波邇安王), who is in the land of Yamashiro, has raised an evil heart. Uncle, you should raise an army and go."
So Hikokunibuku no Mikoto (日子國夫玖命), the ancestor of the Wani no Omi, was sent with him, and they set out after placing sacred jars on the slope of Wani.
When they came to the Wakaragawa (和訶羅河) of Yamashiro, that Takehaniyasu no Miko had raised an army and was waiting to block them. Each side held the river between them, and they stood facing one another and challenged each other. So that place is called Idomi (伊杼美).
Then Hikokunibuku no Mikoto called out, "Let the man on your side shoot the sacred arrow first."
That Takehaniyasu no Miko shot, but could not hit him. Then the arrow that Kunibuku no Mikoto let fly struck Takehaniyasu no Miko, and he died.
His whole army broke and fled. They pressed hard after the fleeing army, and when they reached the ford of Kusuba (久須婆之度), the men were so hard pressed that their dung came out and soiled their breeches. So that place was called Kusobakama (屎褌), and now it is called Kusuba (久須婆).
They also blocked the fleeing army and cut it down, and the dead floated on the river like cormorants. So that river is called Ugawa (鵜河). And because they cut down and scattered — hafuri — those soldiers, that place is called Hafurisono
Having made it level in this way, they went up and reported.
Ohobiko no Mikoto, following the command he had been given before, went off to the land of Koshi. Takenunakawawake, who had been sent to the east, met his father Ohobiko at Aizu (相津). So that place is called Aizu.
So each of them set in order the government of the land to which he had been sent, and returned and reported. Then all under heaven was greatly at peace, and the people were rich and flourishing.
Now for the first time the men were made to render the tribute of the bow tip, and the women the tribute of the fingertips. So that reign is called the reign of the emperor Mimaki who first ruled the land
In this reign too the pond of Yosami (依網池) was made, and the pond of Sakaori in Karu (輕之酒折池) was made as well.
The emperor was one hundred and sixty-eight years of age. His tomb is on the hill of Michinomagari in Yamanobe
