Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Annals of Silla The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

1King Huigang ascends the throne

King Huigang ascended the throne. His name was Jeryung (悌隆), and he was the son of Heonjeong the ichan — who is also called Chono (草奴) — a grandson of King Wonseong the Great. His mother was Lady Podo, and his queen was Lady Munmok, the daughter of Chunggong Galmunwang.

At first, when King Heungdeok died, his cousin Gyunjeong and Jeryung, the son of a cousin, both wished to be king. At this Kim Myeong the sijung, and Ihong and Bae Hwonbaek, of the rank of achan, and the rest upheld Jeryung; and Ujing the achan, together with his nephew Yejing and with Kim Yang, upheld his own father Gyunjeong; and they went into the palace at the same time and fought each other. Kim Yang was struck by an arrow and fled away with Ujing and the others, and Gyunjeong was killed; and only after that could Jeryung ascend the throne.
