1Sadaham
Sadaham's line came out of the jingol. He was a seventh-generation descendant of King Naemul, and his father was Guriji, a geupchan. He was from the first a shining son of a high house, his bearing clear and fine, his will and spirit square and upright, and the people of that time asked him to take up the honor of being a hwarang, and he became one only because he could not refuse. His following was about a thousand men, and he won the heart of every one of them.
King Jinheung ordered Isabu, an ichan, to fall upon the state of Gara. At that time Sadaham was fifteen or sixteen, and he asked to go with the army. The king would not allow it because he was young, but he asked hard and his mind was fixed, and so the king ordered him made vice-general of the Gwidang, and many of his following went with him as well.
When they reached the border of that country, he asked the commander-in-chief for leave, led the troops under him, and was first into Jeondallyang. The people of that country had not thought that soldiers could come so suddenly. They were thrown into alarm and could not hold them off, and the main army came in behind and wiped out that country.
When the army returned, the king weighed his merit and gave him three hundred people of Gara, but once he had taken them he set them all free, and did not keep back a single one. The king also gave him fields, and he firmly refused. When the king pressed him, he asked only that he be given the barren ground at Alcheon.
Sadaham had at first sworn with Mugwallang to be friends to the death. When Mugwan fell ill and died, he wept for him with such bitter grief that after seven days he died as well. He was seventeen years old.
