Tenth Guide to the Central Mountains中次十經
《中次十經》之首,曰首陽之山,其上多金玉,無草木。
The first of the Zhong ci shi jing is Mount Shouyang. On its heights there is much gold and jade, and no grass or trees.
又西五十里,曰虎尾之山,其木多椒椐,多封石;其陽多赤金,其陰多鐵。
Fifty li further west lies Mount Huwei. Its trees are mostly prickly ash and ju, with much fengshi stone. On its sunny side there is much red metal, and on its shaded side much iron.
又西南五十里,曰繁繢之山,其木多楢杻,其草多枝勾。
Fifty li further southwest lies Mount Fankui. Its trees are mostly oak and niu, and its plants are mostly zhigou.
又西南二十里,曰勇石之山,無草木,多白金,多水。
Twenty li further southwest lies Mount Yongshi. There is no grass or trees, much white metal, and much water.
又西二十里,曰復州之山,其木多檀,其陽多黃金。有鳥焉,其狀如鴞,而一足彘尾,其名曰跂踵,見則其國大疫。
Twenty li further west lies Mount Fuzhou. Its trees are mostly birch, and on its sunny side there is much yellow gold. There is a bird here shaped like an owl, but with one foot and the tail of a pig. It is called qizhong, and when it appears a great plague comes upon that state.
又西三十里,曰楮山,多寓木,多椒椐,多柘,多堊。
Thirty li further west lies Mount Chu. There is much mistletoe, much prickly ash and ju, much mountain mulberry, and much white clay.
又西二十里,曰又原之山,其陽多青雘,其陰多鐵,其鳥多鸜鵒。
Twenty li further west lies Mount Youyuan. On its sunny side there is much qinghuo, on its shaded side much iron, and its birds are mostly mynas.
又西五十里,曰涿山,其木多榖柞杻,其陽多㻬琈之玉。
Fifty li further west lies Mount Zhuo. Its trees are mostly paper mulberry, oak and niu, and on its sunny side there is much tufu jade.
又西七十里,曰丙山,其木多梓檀,多弞杻。
Seventy li further west lies Mount Bing. Its trees are mostly catalpa and birch, with many drooping niu.
凡首陽山之首,自首山至于丙山,凡九山,二百六十七里。其神狀皆龍身而人面。其祠之:毛用一雄雞瘞,糈用五種之糈。堵山,冢也,其祠之:少牢具,羞酒祠,嬰毛一璧瘞。騩山,帝也,其祠︰羞酒,太牢其;合巫祝二人儛,嬰一璧。
In all, the head of the Shouyang range runs from Mount Shou to Mount Bing, nine mountains in all, two hundred and sixty-seven li. The gods there all have the body of a dragon and the face of a man. When sacrifice is made to them, one cock whole in its hair is buried, and rice of the five grains is used as the offering rice. Mount Du is a chief mountain. The rite for it: the lesser offering is set out and wine is presented in sacrifice, and for the hanging offering one victim whole in its hair and one bi disc are buried. Mount Gui is the mountain of the High God. The rite for it: wine is presented and the great offering is set out, a shaman and an invocator, two men, are brought together to dance, and one bi disc is used for the hanging offering.
