Beyond the Seas: South海外南經
地之所載，六合之閒，四海之內，照之以日月，經之以星辰，紀之以四時，要之以太歲，神靈所生，其物異形，或夭或壽，唯聖人能通其道。
What the earth bears, between the six directions and within the four seas, is lit by the sun and the moon, crossed by the stars, ordered by the four seasons, and held to its measure by the Great Year. All of it is born of the spirits, and its creatures differ in form. Some die young and some live long, and only the sage can penetrate their way.
海外自西南陬至東南陬者。
These are the lands beyond the seas, from the southwest corner to the southeast corner.
結匈國在其西南，其為人結匈。
The land of Jiexiong lies to its southwest. Its people have jutting chests.
南山在其東南。自此山來，蟲為蛇，蛇號為魚。一曰南山在結匈東南。比翼鳥在其東，其為鳥青、赤，兩鳥比翼。一曰在南山東。
Mount Nan lies to its southeast. From this mountain on, insects are called snakes and snakes are called fish. One account says Mount Nan lies southeast of Jiexiong. The biyi birds lie to its east. These birds are green and red, and the two birds join their wings. One account says they lie east of Mount Nan.
羽民國在其東南，其為人長頭，身生羽。一曰在比翼鳥東南，其為人長頰。
The land of Yumin lies to its southeast. Its people have long heads, and feathers grow on their bodies. One account says it lies southeast of the biyi birds, and that its people have long cheeks.
有神人二八，連臂，為帝司夜于此野。在羽民東。其為小人頰赤肩，盡十六人。
There are the divine beings Erba. They link their arms and keep the night in these wilds for the High God. They lie east of Yumin. They are small people with red cheeks and red shoulders, sixteen men in all.
畢方鳥在其東，青水西，其為鳥一腳。一曰在二八神東。
The Bifang bird lies to its east, west of the Qing River. This bird has one leg. One account says it lies east of the Erba gods.
讙頭國在其南，其為人人面有翼，鳥喙，方捕魚。一曰在畢方東。或曰讙朱國。
The land of Huantou lies to its south. Its people have the face of a man with wings, and the beak of a bird, and they are catching fish. One account says it lies east of Bifang. Some call it the land of Huanzhu.
厭火國在其南，獸身黑色。生火出其口中。一曰在讙朱東。
The land of Yanhuo lies to its south. Their bodies are those of beasts and their color is black. They make fire and spout it from their mouths. One account says it lies east of Huanzhu.
三株樹在厭火北，生赤水上，其為樹如柏，葉皆為珠。一曰其為樹若彗。
The three pearl trees lie north of Yanhuo, growing by the Red River. These trees are like cypresses, and their leaves are all pearls. One account says the trees are like brooms.
三苗國在赤水東，其為人相隨。一曰三毛國。
The land of Sanmiao lies east of the Red River. Its people follow one after another. One account calls it the land of Sanmao.
臷國在其東，其為人黃，能操弓射蛇。一曰臷國在三毛東。
The land of Zhi lies to its east. Its people are yellow, and they can take up a bow and shoot snakes. One account says the land of Zhi lies east of Sanmao.
貫匈國在其東，其為人匈有竅。一曰在臷國東。
The land of Guanxiong lies to its east. Its people have a hole through the chest. One account says it lies east of the land of Zhi.
交脛國在其東，其為人交脛。一曰在穿匈東。
The land of Jiaojing lies to its east. Its people have crossed shins. One account says it lies east of Chuanxiong.
不死民在其東，其為人黑色，壽，不死。一曰在穿匈國東。
The Deathless People live to its east. Their color is black, and they live long and do not die. One account says they lie east of the land of Chuanxiong.
反舌國在其東，其為人反舌。一日支舌國在不死民東。
The land of Fanshe lies to its east. Its people have turned-back tongues. One account says the land of Zhishe lies east of the Deathless People.

The Kunlun Mound lies to its east, and the mound is four-square. One account says it lies east of Fanshe, and that it is a four-square mound.
羿與鑿齒戰于壽華之野，羿射殺之。在昆侖虛東。羿持弓矢，鑿齒持盾。一曰持戈。
Yi fought Zaochi in the wilds of Shouhua, and Yi shot him dead. This is east of the Kunlun Mound. Yi held a bow and arrows, and Zaochi held a shield. One account says he held a halberd.
三首國在其東，其為人一身三首。一曰在鑿齒東。
The land of Sanshou lies to its east. Its people have one body and three heads. One account says it lies east of Zaochi.
周饒國在其東，其為人短小，冠帶。一曰焦僥國在三首東。
The land of Zhourao lies to its east. Its people are short and small, and they wear caps and belts. One account says the land of Jiaoyao lies east of Sanshou.
長臂國在其東，捕魚水中，兩手各操一魚。一曰在焦僥東，捕魚海中。
The land of Changbi lies to its east. They catch fish in the water, each hand holding one fish. One account says it lies east of Jiaoyao, and that they catch fish in the sea.
狄山，帝堯葬于陽，帝嚳葬于陰。爰有熊、羆、文虎、蜼、豹、離朱、視肉。吁咽、文王皆葬其所。一曰湯山。一曰爰有熊、羆、文虎、蜼、豹、離朱、𩿨久、視肉、虖交。有范林方三百里。
This is Mount Di. The Emperor Yao is buried on its south side, and the Emperor Ku on its north side. Here there are bears, brown bears, patterned tigers, wei, leopards, lizhu and shirou. Yuyan and King Wen are both buried in that place. One account calls it Mount Tang. One account says that here there are bears, brown bears, patterned tigers, wei, leopards, lizhu, jiujiu, shirou and hujiao. There is Fanlin, three hundred li on each side.
南方祝融，獸身人面，乘兩龍。
Zhurong of the south has the body of a beast and the face of a man, and he rides two dragons.
