Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) Filial Piety and Virtue, Part Nine A collection of tales of the Three Kingdoms period, compiled by Iryeon, a monk of Goryeo. He gathered the stories the official histories had cast aside. It is the oldest book that carries the myth of Dangun.

向得舎知割股供親景徳王代能川州有向得舎知者.年㐫,其父㡬於餒死,向得割股以給飬.州人具事奏聞,景徳王賞賜租五百碩.
Hyangdeuk of the rank of saji cuts his thigh to feed his parent — reign of King Gyeongdeok.
In Ungcheonju there was a man called Hyangdeuk (向得) of the rank of saji.
In a year of famine his father was on the point of starving to death, and Hyangdeuk cut flesh from his thigh to feed him.
The people of the district reported the matter in full, and King Gyeongdeok rewarded him with five hundred seok of grain.
