Samguk Yusa (Memorabilia of the Three Kingdoms) Pagodas and Images, Part Four A collection of tales of the Three Kingdoms period, compiled by Iryeon, a monk of Goryeo. He gathered the stories the official histories had cast aside. It is the oldest book that carries the myth of Dangun.

1Regilding the sixteen-foot image

善徳王創寺塑像因縁,具載良志法師傳.景徳王即位二十三年丈六攺金,租二万三千七百碩.〔良志傳作像之初成之費.今两存之.〕

The story of how Queen Seondeok built the temple and made the image is fully recorded in the Biography of the Dharma Master Yangji (良志法師傳).

In the twenty-third year of King Gyeongdeok's reign the sixteen-foot image was regilded, and it cost twenty-three thousand seven hundred seok of grain.〔The Biography of the Dharma Master Yangji says this was the cost when the image was first made. Both are kept here.〕
