The Countries of Daebalryul, Yangdong and Sapaja
1Three countries under Tibet
Again, northeast of the country of Kashmir, across the mountains, fifteen days' journey, are the country of Daebalryul (大㔜律國), the country of Yangdong (揚同國) and the country of Sapaja (娑播慈國). All three belong under the rule of Tibet. Their dress, their speech and their manners are each different. They wear leather coats, wool shirts, boots, trousers and the like. The land is narrow and small, and the mountains and rivers are very steep.
Even so there are monasteries and there are monks, and they revere and believe in the Three Jewels. In Tibet east of here there are no monasteries at all and the Law of the Buddha is not known; but in these three countries the people of the land are Hu (胡), and for that reason they believe.
