It was lost for more than a thousand years and was found again in 1908 in the caves of Dunhuang, as a damaged scroll. Five poems in five-word lines, longing for home, are carried in it.

1The country where the king fled and settled

Again, northwest of the country of Kashmir, across the mountains, seven days' journey, one reaches the country of Sobalryul This country belongs under the rule of the country of Han (漢國). Its dress, its manners, its food and its speech are like those of Daebalryul. They wear wool shirts and boots, they cut their beards and hair, and they wind one strip of cotton cloth about the head. The women let their hair grow. The poor are many and the rich are few. The mountains and rivers are narrow and small, and there is not much land under crops. Those mountains are barren, and from the first they have neither trees nor any plants.

Daebalryul was from the first the place where the king of Sobalryul lived, but when Tibet pressed in upon him he fled and settled in the country of Sobalryul. The chiefs and the people stayed behind in that Daebalryul and did not come.
