1Half Hu, half Turk

Again, east of the country of Balhana there is one country named Goldol (骨咄國). This king is by origin of Turkish stock, and the people of that land are half Hu and half Turk.

The land yields camels, mules, sheep, horses, cattle, asses, grapes, wool cloth, wool blankets and the like. They wear wool cloth and leather coats. Their speech is half that of Tokhara, half Turkish and half the speech of the land itself.

The king, the chiefs and the people revere and believe the Three Jewels, and there are monasteries and there are monks, and they practise the Law of the Lesser Vehicle. This country is under the rule of the Arabs. Outside they call it a country, but it is like one large prefecture (州) of the land of Han. In this country the men cut their beards and hair, and the women let their hair grow.
