Da Tang Xiyu Ji (Great Tang Records on the Western Regions) Book 1 The record Xuanzang laid before Emperor Taizong of the Tang after seventeen years of walking through the Western Regions and India, a hundred and thirty-eight countries in all. It is the stuff from which Journey to the West was made, but what stands here is not monsters — it is the compass and the climate and the speech and the faith of one country after another. The road runs two hundred years after Faxian and eighty years before Hyecho.

拘謎陀國。東西二千餘里。南北二百餘里。據大葱嶺中。國大都城周二十餘里。西南隣縛芻河。南接尸棄尼國。南渡縛芻河至達摩悉鐵帝國。鉢鐸創那國。淫薄健國。屈浪拏國。呬摩呾羅國。鉢利曷國。訖栗瑟摩國。曷邏胡國。阿利尼國。瞢健國。自活國東南至闊悉多國安呾邏縛國。事在迴記。

The country of Jumituo is more than two thousand li from east to west and more than two hundred li from north to south. It lies in the midst of the great Pamirs. The great capital city of the country is more than twenty li around. To the southwest it neighbors the Fuchu River, and to the south it touches the country of Shiqini. Crossing the Fuchu River to the south, one comes to the countries of Damoxitiedi, Boduochuangna, Yinbojian, Qulangna, Ximodala, Bolihe, Qilisemo, Heluohu, Alini, and Mengjian. From the country of Huo, going southeast, one comes to the countries of Kuoxiduo and Andaluofu. These matters are in the record of the journey back.
