Da Tang Xiyu Ji (Great Tang Records on the Western Regions) Book 11 The record Xuanzang laid before Emperor Taizong of the Tang after seventeen years of walking through the Western Regions and India, a hundred and thirty-eight countries in all. It is the stuff from which Journey to the West was made, but what stands here is not monsters — it is the compass and the climate and the speech and the faith of one country after another. The road runs two hundred years after Faxian and eighty years before Hyecho.
The country of Balujiechanpo is two thousand four or five hundred li around. The great walled capital of the country is more than twenty li around. The land is salt and brackish, and grass and trees are thin and scattered. They boil sea water to make salt, and they make the sea their livelihood. The climate is hot and burning, and whirlwinds rise in violent gusts. The customs of that place are shallow and mean, and the nature of the people is crooked and false. They do not know learning or the arts, and they believe in the false and the true alike. There are more than ten monasteries and more than two hundred monks, and they study and learn the Law of the Sthavira school of the Greater Vehicle. There are more than ten temples of the gods, and the followers of other ways live mixed among them.
從此西北行二千餘里,至摩臘婆國。
Going northwest from here more than two thousand li, one comes to the country of Molapo.
