Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 4 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.
The Tianbao yishi says: When Minghuang and the Precious Consort were deep in their wine, he had the Consort lead more than a hundred palace women while he himself led more than a hundred young eunuchs, and they drew up two arrays within the Yeting (掖庭), the inner palace, which he called the Array of Revelry (風流陣). They spread out rose-cloud capes and brocade jackets for banners, attacked and fought one another, and punished the losing side with a great goblet, making a jest of it. People spoke of it as an inauspicious omen, and afterward there was indeed the revolt of An Lushan.
禁掖庭深闢鬪場。錦衾霞被散濃香。明皇謾有風流陣。未禦胡雛犯上陽。
In the deep forbidden palace, in the Yeting, a battleground was opened,
and from brocade quilts and rose-cloud capes thick fragrance scattered.
Minghuang had his Array of Revelry, and it came to nothing:
it did not keep the barbarian boy from violating the Shangyang Palace (上陽宮).
