Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 15 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

李公心匠構茅亭。盛夏登臨敵馭冷。烟淡未遮川遠碧。日炎難犯樹深靑。檻前山似屛中見。座下泉如舸底聽。長揖羨門堪挹袖。不因羽化亦通靈。

Duke Yi built the thatched pavilion with the craft of his mind, and to climb it in midsummer is match enough for commanding the cold itself. The mist is too thin to screen anything, so the haze is green far off; the sunlight, hot as it is, can hardly intrude, so the trees are deeply green. The hills before the railing are as though seen inside a painted screen; the spring under the mat is as though heard beneath a boat. One could make a long bow to Xianmen (羨門) and take him by the sleeve; though no wings have sprouted, one reaches through to the spirits.
