Dongguk Isangguk Jip (Collected Works of Minister Yi of the Eastern Country) Former Collection, Book 39 The collected writings of Yi Gyubo of Goryeo, gathered and cut in woodblock by his son Yi Ham in 1241 and revised and enlarged by his grandson Yi Ikbae in 1251. It holds poems and rhapsodies, memorials and reports sent up to the king, records written for temples and pagodas, stele and tomb inscriptions, letters and prefaces, and the state letters that passed to and from the Mongols during the invasions. The Lay of King Dongmyeong, which sings the founder of Goguryeo, stands in volume 3 of the first collection, and the daily life of a man who called himself the White Cloud Layman — with his wine, his zither and his verse — fills the later collection. The book closes with the last poem he wrote as his eyes failed and he laid down the brush, and with the dirge and tomb inscription others made for him after his death.

Moving the four quarters like a wind, 「Gwanjeo (關雎)」 is the teaching of the royal consort; and exhausting in its principle the ten stages of the bodhisattva, Prajna is the foremost of the Buddha's Law.

I consider that, having received my ascent to the royal seat, I am now to settle the place of the Inner Chamber (中閨). Since in ritual this is a weighty matter, a fair assembly must needs be opened and the ceremony furnished; and that there be no trouble until the business is done, we must knock at the marvelous gate and pray for help. So we gather monks furnished with the three thousand deportments to send abroad the divine teaching of the sixteen assemblies. The surpassing work has only just reached everywhere, and already you look into the hearts of others.

Prostrate, I pray that the fair title may be rightly established, so that within the palace there is joy overflowing everywhere; and that wherever the teaching of the inner household reaches, the whole land may receive blessing.
