Jingang Jing (The Diamond Sutra) Complete in one volume "All marks that exist are empty and false" — a sutra that teaches one to give rise to the mind without dwelling anywhere. It follows, just as they stand, the thirty-two sections into which Prince Zhaoming divided it. It is told that Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch, heard one line of this sutra and set his heart on awakening.

1Giving the Seven Treasures

「須菩提!於意云何?若人滿三千大千世界七寶以用布施,是人所得福德,寧為多不?」

"Subhuti! What do you think? If someone gave away the seven treasures enough to fill the great thousandfold world-system (三千大千世界), would the merit that person gains be great?"

Interlinear notes 1

諸佛之法,依此生出

The Dharma of all the Buddhas arises from this.

2Because It Is Not the Nature of Merit

須菩提言:「甚多,世尊!何以故?是福德即非福德性,是故如來說福德多。」

Subhuti said, "Very great, World-Honored One! Why is this? Because this merit is not the nature of merit, and so the Tathagata says the merit is great."

3The Merit of a Four-Line Verse

"And if someone else took up and kept even a four-line verse from this sutra and explained it to others, that merit would surpass the first. Why is this? Subhuti! Because all the Buddhas, and the anuttara-samyak-sambodhi Dharma of all the Buddhas, come forth from this sutra. Subhuti! What is called the Buddha-Dharma is not the Buddha-Dharma; that is only its name."
