Annals of Goguryeo (高句麗紀).
2Named Jumong for his good shooting
麗祖姓高 諡東明, 善射故以朱蒙名.
The founder of Goguryeo had the surname Go (高) and the posthumous name Dongmyeong. He shot well, and so he was named Jumong.

When the king was first born the whole state held him high (高), and from that they took his surname.
扶餘人, 名善射爲朱蒙.
The people of Buyeo name one who shoots well jumong.
3Grandson of heaven, sister's son of Habaek
父解慕漱母柳花, 皇天之孫河伯甥.
His father was Haemosu and his mother was Yuhwa. He was the grandson of august heaven and the sister's son of Habaek.

本紀云, “漢神雀三年壬戌, 天帝遣太子解慕漱, 遊扶餘王古都. 乘五龍車, 從者百餘人, 皆乘白鵠云云. 臺上立君臣之禮, 獵於熊心山. 河伯三女, 出遊優浡之河, 長女柳花爲王所止云云.” 文順公東明詩云, “天孫河伯甥.”
The Bongi says, "In the third year of Shenque under Han, the year imsul, the Emperor of Heaven sent his crown prince Haemosu to roam in the old capital of the king of Buyeo. He rode a carriage of five dragons, and his followers, more than a hundred men, all rode white swans. On a terrace he set up the rites of lord and subject, and he hunted on Mount Ungsim. The three daughters of Habaek came out to roam on the Ubalsu, and the eldest, Yuhwa, was kept by the king." In his poem on Dongmyeong, Lord Munsun (Yi Gyubo) wrote, "Grandson of heaven and sister's son of Habaek."
4Yuhwa by the Ubalsu
父還天宮不復返, 母在優浡淸江汀.
His father went back to the palace of heaven and did not come again, and his mother stayed on the clear bank of the Ubalsu.
5King Geumwa receives her in a separate lodge
扶餘國王名金蛙, 爲開別館相邀迎.
The king of the state of Buyeo, Geumwa by name, built a separate lodge for her and welcomed her in.
6A great egg of five doe
五升大卵左脅誕, 陰雲之日生陽晶.
She bore from her left side a great egg, five doe in measure, and on a day of heavy cloud a brightness like sunlight came forth.
7He speaks a few months after birth
兒生數月能言語, 漸至壯大才豪英.
Some months after the child was born he could speak, and as he grew great by degrees his gifts were bold and outstanding.
8Fish and turtles lay a bridge
時王太子生妬忌, 譖令牧馬驅䮐䮐, 王來欲渡蓋斯水, 魚鼈化作橋梁橫.
At that time the king's crown prince grew jealous of him, and slandered him and set him to herd horses and drove him hard. When the prince (Jumong) came and would cross the Gaesasu, fish and turtles changed themselves and laid a bridge across.

9He opens a state at Wanggeomseong
漢元立昭二甲申, 開國馬韓王儉城, 天遣人來立宮闕, 山昏谷暗聞丁丁, 爲七日已雲霧捲, 金碧㟮屼磨新晴.
In the second year of Jianzhao under Emperor Yuan of Han, the year gapsin, he opened a state at Wanggeomseong in the land of Mahan. Heaven sent men down to raise the palace halls, and the hills were dim and the valleys dark, and only the ring of hammers was heard, and when seven days were done the clouds and the mist rolled away, and gold and blue, standing high, shone in the newly cleared sky.

It was the twenty-first year of Silla.
今西京也. 以高句麗縣名立國. 五代史曰, “高句麗扶餘別種也.”(큰 따옴표 삽입)
It is the Seogyeong (Pyeongyang) of today. The state was set up under the name of the district of Goguryeo. The Wudai shi says, "Goguryeo is a separate branch of Buyeo."
羅之□□一年也 — two graphs are lost in the base text, which reads 「□□一年」. The second year of Jianzhao under Emperor Yuan of Han was the twenty-first year since Silla was founded, so it is read 「二十一年」. ― translator
10Songyang gives his loyalty
烏伊摩離與陜父, 三臣同德聊贊成, 沸流國王松讓者, 禮以後先開國爭, 尋爲大雨所漂突, 擧國款附輸忠誠.
Oi and Mari and Hyeopbo, three subjects of one virtue, helped him and brought it about. Songyang, the king of the state of Biryu, kept the rites but contended over whose state was opened first, and when soon after he was swept away by a great rain, he brought his whole state over and gave his loyalty.
11The qilin's hooves on the Jocheonseok
往來天上詣天政, 朝天石上驎蹄輕.
He went to and fro above the heavens and attended the government of heaven, and on the Jocheonseok the qilin's hooves were light.
12He rises to heaven and does not return
在位十九年九月, 升天不復迴雲輧.
In the ninth month of the nineteenth year of his reign, he rose to heaven and did not come back again in his chariot of cloud.
13Yuri buries the jade whip
聖子類利 來嗣位, 葬遺玉鞭成墳塋.
His holy son Yuri came and succeeded to the seat, and buried the jade whip left behind and raised a tomb over it.

He was the son his wife was carrying when he was in Buyeo.

It is the tomb at Yongsan today.
14Branches spread and leaves grow thick
枝繁葉茂承承理, 時與江水爭澄淸.
The branches spread and the leaves grew thick, and the rule was handed on and on, and at times it vied with the river water for clearness.
15Gaesomun seizes the power
蓋蘇文者乘時進, 令色巧言爲寵卿, 姦回掌上弄國柄, 臨事方便誅良貞.
One Gaesomun rose with the times, and by a made-up face and artful words became a favored minister. Cunningly he played with the power of the state upon his palm, and as matters came to hand he put to death the good and the upright.
16The foundation of the state tilts
擅權中外日肆虐, 民墜塗炭邦基傾.
He held all power within and without and grew more cruel by the day, and the people fell into mire and fire, and the foundation of the state tilted.
17King Gojang too loses the measure
後君高藏又失度, 安能復定輿人情.
The later king Gojang (高藏) also lost the measure of rule. How could the hearts of the people be settled again?
18Who would dare stop the march of Li Ji
唐高摠章元伐辰, 羅王奏乞王師征, 李績行軍誰敢拒.
In the first year of Zongzhang under Emperor Gaozong of Tang, the year mujin, the king of Silla sent word and begged that the royal army come and punish them. Who would dare stop the march of Li Ji (李勣)?
19Seven hundred and five years, twenty-eight rulers
先聲纔及皆奔驚, 共計二十有八主, 七百五年題大平, 爾後二百三十一, 地爲羅人之所幷.
The report of it had barely come when they all fled in fright. Counted all together they were twenty-eight rulers, and seven hundred and five years were written down as years of great peace. Two hundred and thirty-one years after that, the land was taken in by the people of Silla.
