Jewang Ungi (Rhymed Chronicle of Emperors and Kings) Lower Book From Pangu to the Jurchen Jin, from Dangun to Goryeo — an epic that weaves the two histories, of China and of the East, into verse. Declaring that there is a world apart in Liaodong, it sets the history of Korea beside that of China, and it is one of the first histories to sing of Dangun as the founding ancestor of every state on the Korean peninsula. The author's own one hundred and ninety-seven interlinear notes are carried with it.

Annals of Later Goryeo (後高麗紀), the state of Gung Ye.

2The prince driven out

羅王景文生庶子, 齒有兩重含付聲, 相是害君乃放逐, 托跡浮圖潛遊行.

King Gyeongmun of Silla begot a son of a concubine. His teeth came in double rows, and a strange sound was mixed in his crying. The reader of faces said, "He has the look of one who will harm his lord," and so he was driven out, and he hid himself among the monks and went wandering.

捿興敎寺 邏齋去, 時以應鉢手中擎, 有烏含落是器中, 王字鏤在黃牙柱.

He lodged at Heunggyosa and went the rounds for the fast-offerings, and he held up his begging bowl in his hands, when a crow let fall what it carried into that bowl, and on a yellow ivory tally the graph for king (王) was carved.

古之善達寺也, 或云浮石寺, 以國史爲定.

It is the Seondalsa of old, and some call it Buseoksa. The Guksa is taken as the standard.

4He hides the sprout of treachery

中心自奇秘不出, 方寸益復藏姦萌.

In his heart he thought it a wonder and hid it and did not bring it out, and deeper in his breast he stored away the sprout of treachery.

5From Seonjong to Gung Ye

名本善宗改弓裔, 投北原 賊梁吉兵.

His name was Seonjong at first, and he changed it to Gung Ye, and he threw himself into the troops of Yang Gil, the bandit of Bugwon.

6He calls his state Later Goryeo

唐佋大順元庚戌, 稱後高麗立王旌.

In the first year of Dashun under Emperor Zhaozong of Tang, the year gyeongsul, he called his state Later Goryeo and set up a king's banner.

7From Geumseong to Cheorwon

初屯金城日闢土, 轉宅鐵郡新開京.

At first he camped at Geumseong (Gimhwa) and widened his land by the day, then he shifted his seat to the district of Cheorwon and opened a new capital.

8Down to the fourth year of Zhenming, the year muin

至梁貞明四戊寅.

It came to the fourth year of Zhenming under Liang, the year muin,

9He drove the people to our Taejo

二十有八年光更, 莫愧邇來尤暴恣, 爲 我太祖驅蒼生.

and in twenty-eight years the light was changed. Let him not be ashamed that of late he was the more cruel and the more wanton, for it was he who drove the living people over to our Taejo.
