Izahowake no Mikoto dwelt in the palace of Wakasakura in Iware (伊波禮之若櫻宮), and ruled all under heaven.
This Emperor took to wife Kurohime no Mikoto (黑比賣命), the daughter of Ashida no Sukune (葦田宿禰), who was the son of Sotsuhiko of Kazuraki, and the children born were Ichinobe no Oshiha no Miko (市邊之忍齒王), and next Mima no Miko (御馬王), and next their sister Awomi no Iratsume (青海郎女), whose other name was Ihitoyo no Iratsume (飯豐郎女).
At first, while he was in the palace of Naniwa, he held the great tasting rite (大嘗) and made a feast. With the great sake he grew urage — his heart loosened — and he fell into a deep sleep. Then his younger brother Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko, wishing to kill the Emperor, set fire to the great hall.
Then Achi no Atai (阿知直), the ancestor of the Aya no Atai of Yamato (倭漢直), secretly carried him out, set him on a horse, and brought him away to Yamato.
When they reached the plain of Tajihi (多遲比野) he awoke and said, "Where is this?" Achi no Atai said, "Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko set fire to the great hall, and so I am taking you and fleeing to Yamato."
Then the Emperor sang:
Tajihinoni nemutoshiriseba Tatsugomomo mochitekomashimono Nemutoshiriseba
— Had I known I would sleep on the plain of Tajihi, I would have brought a screening mat with me. Had I known I would sleep.

4The woman met at Ohosaka
When he came to the mouth of the pass of Ohosaka (大坂) he met a woman. That woman said, "Many men with weapons are holding this mountain. It would be well to go around by the road of Tagima (當岐麻道) and cross over." Then the Emperor sang:

6He uses Sobakari to kill his brother, then silences him
So he went up and dwelt in the shrine of Isonokami.
Then his younger brother Mizuhawake no Mikoto came and asked to be received. The Emperor sent word, "I suspect that you may be of one heart with Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko. So I will not meet you and speak with you."
He answered, "I have no foul or evil heart. I am not of one side with Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko."
Again the Emperor sent word, "Then go back down now, kill Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko, and come up again. Then I will surely meet you and speak with you."
So he went down at once to Naniwa and deceived the Hayahito (隼人) named Sobakari (曾婆訶理), who served Suminoe no Nakatsu no Miko closely, saying, "If you do as I say, I will become Emperor and make you prime minister, and we will rule all under heaven. What do you say?"
Sobakari said, "I will do as you command." Then he gave the Hayahito many rewards and said, "Then kill your lord."
So Sobakari watched in secret for the time when his lord went to the privy, and stabbed him with a spear and killed him.
As he was taking Sobakari up to Yamato with him, he came to the mouth of the pass of Ohosaka and thought, "Sobakari has done a great deed for me, but he has killed his own lord. This is not right. Yet if I do not repay his deed, men will say I have no faith. And if I do keep my word to him, his heart is a thing to fear. So I will repay the deed, but I will take away his body."
Then he said to Sobakari, "Today we will stay here. First I will give you the place of prime minister, and tomorrow we will go up."
He stayed at the mouth of that pass, built a temporary palace, and quickly held a feast. He gave the Hayahito the place of prime minister and had all the officials bow to him, and the Hayahito rejoiced, thinking his wish fulfilled.
Then he said to the Hayahito, "Today I will drink from the same cup with the prime minister." As they drank together, the sake was poured into a bowl so large that it covered the face. The prince drank first and the Hayahito drank after. As the Hayahito drank, the great bowl covered his face. Then he drew out the sword he had placed under the mat and cut off the Hayahito's head. The next day he went up. So that place is called Chikatsu Asuka (近飛鳥).
He went up to Yamato and said, "Today we will stay here and purify ourselves, and tomorrow we will go out and worship at the shrine." So that place is called Tohotsu Asuka (遠飛鳥).
He went out to the shrine of Isonokami and had this reported to the Emperor: "The matter is wholly settled, and I have come up to attend you." Then he was called in, and they spoke together.
At this time the Emperor first appointed Achi no Atai to the office of the storehouse (藏官), and gave him land for his rice as well.
Also in this reign the name Wakasakurabe was given to the Wakasakurabe no Omi, and the surname Himeda no Kimi was given to the Himeda no Kimi, and the Iwarebe (伊波禮部) was established.
This Emperor was sixty-four years old. His tomb is at Mozu (毛受).
