Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Annals of Baekje The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

1King Gye ascends the throne

契王,汾西王之長子也。天資剛勇,善騎射。初汾西之薨也,契王幼不得立,比流王在位四十一年薨,卽位。

King Gye (契王) was the eldest son of King Bunseo. He was firm and brave by nature and good at riding and at the bow. When Bunseo died at the first, Gye was young and could not be set up. King Biryu had been on the throne forty-one years when he died, and then Gye ascended the throne.

2The third year — King Gye dies

三年,秋九月,王薨。

In the third year, in autumn, the ninth month, the king died.
