1King Geunchogo ascends the throne
近肖古王，比流王第二子也，體貌奇偉，有遠識，契王薨，繼位。
King Geunchogo (近肖古王) was the second son of King Biryu. His body and his looks were remarkable and outstanding, and he had far sight. When King Gye died, he took up the throne after him.
2The second year — Jin Jeong is made jojeong jwapyeong
二年，春正月，祭天地神祇。拜眞淨為朝廷佐平。淨王后親戚，性狠戾不仁，臨事苛細，恃勢自用，國人疾之。
In the second year, in spring, the first month, offering was made to the gods of heaven and of earth. Jin Jeong was made jojeong jwapyeong. Jeong was a kinsman of the queen. He was fierce and harsh by nature and not kind, and he was strict and small in the handling of affairs, and he leaned on his power and did as he pleased, so that the people of the country hated him.
3The twenty-first year — an envoy pays a visit to Silla
二十一年，春三月，遣使聘新羅。
In the twenty-first year, in spring, the third month, an envoy was sent to pay a visit to Silla.
4The twenty-third year — good horses are sent to Silla
二十三年，春三月丁巳朔，日有食之。遣使新羅，送良馬二匹。
In the twenty-third year, in spring, the third month, on the first day, a jeongsa day, the sun was eclipsed. An envoy was sent to Silla with two good horses.
5The twenty-fourth year — Goguryeo is broken at Chiyang
二十四年，秋九月，高句麗王斯由帥步騎二萬，來屯雉壤，分兵侵奪民戶。王遣太子，以兵徑至雉壤，急擊破之，獲五千餘級，其虜獲分賜將士。冬十一月，大閱於漢水南，旗幟皆用黃。
In the twenty-fourth year, in autumn, the ninth month, Sayu, the king of Goguryeo, led twenty thousand foot and horse and came and camped at Chiyang, and he divided his troops and raided the people and took from them. The king sent the crown prince, who went with troops straight to Chiyang and struck hard and broke them, and more than five thousand heads were taken. What was seized there was shared out among the generals and the soldiers. In winter, the eleventh month, there was a great review south of the Han River, and the banners were all of yellow.
6The twenty-sixth year — Pyongyang fortress is attacked and the king of Goguryeo dies
二十六年，高句麗擧兵來。王聞之，伏兵於浿河上，俟其至，急擊之，高句麗兵敗北。冬，王與太子帥精兵三萬，侵高句麗，攻平壤城。麗王斯由釗，力戰拒之，中流矢死，王引軍退。移都漢山。
In the twenty-sixth year Goguryeo raised troops and came. The king heard of it and hid soldiers on the bank of the Pae River, and he waited until they came and struck hard at them, and the Goguryeo troops were beaten and fled.
In winter the king went with the crown prince at the head of thirty thousand picked troops and raided Goguryeo and attacked the fortress of Pyongyang. Sayu (Soe), the king of Goguryeo, fought with all his strength to hold them off, but he was struck by a stray arrow and died, and the king drew off his army and withdrew. The capital was moved to Hansan.
7The twenty-seventh year — tribute is offered to Jin
二十七年，春正月，遣使入晉朝貢。秋七月，地震。
In the twenty-seventh year, in spring, the first month, an envoy was sent into Jin to offer tribute. In autumn, the seventh month, the earth shook.
8The twenty-eighth year — a fortress is built at Cheongmongnyeong
二十八年，春二月，遣使入晉朝貢。秋七月，築城於靑木嶺。禿山城主率三百人，奔新羅。
In the twenty-eighth year, in spring, the second month, an envoy was sent into Jin to offer tribute. In autumn, the seventh month, a fortress was built at Cheongmongnyeong. The lord of Doksanseong led three hundred people and fled to Silla.
9The thirtieth year — King Geunchogo dies
三十年，秋七月，高句麗來攻北鄙水谷城，陷之。王遣將拒之，不克。王又將大擧兵報之，以年荒不果。冬十一月，王薨。古記云：「百濟開國已來，未有以文字記事。至是，得博士高興，始有《書記》。」然高興未嘗顯於他書，不知其何許人也。
In the thirtieth year, in autumn, the seventh month, Goguryeo came and attacked Sugokseong on the northern border and took it. The king sent a general to hold them off, but he could not win. The king was going to raise a great army and repay them, but the year was lean and it came to nothing.
In winter, the eleventh month, the king died. The Gogi says, "Since Baekje opened its country there had never been a setting down of affairs in letters. It was at this time that the baksa Goheung was got, and then for the first time there was the Seogi (書記)." But Goheung has never appeared in any other book, and it is not known what manner of man he was.
