Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Annals of Baekje The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

1King Beop ascends the throne

法王,諱宣,惠王之長子。惠王薨,子宣,繼位。

King Beop (法王), whose name was Seon (宣), was the eldest son of King Hye. When King Hye died, his son Seon succeeded to the throne.

2The first year — the taking of life is forbidden

冬十二月,下令:禁殺生,收民家所養鷹鷂,放之,漁獵之具焚之。

In winter, the twelfth month, an order went down forbidding the taking of life. The hawks and the sparrowhawks kept in the houses of the people were gathered up and set free, and the gear for fishing and hunting was burned.

3The second year — Wangheungsa is founded

二年,春正月,創王興寺,度僧三十人。大旱,王幸漆岳寺,祈雨。夏五月,薨。上諡曰法。

In the second year, in spring, the first month, Wangheungsa was founded and thirty men were ordained as monks. There was a great drought, and the king went to Chiraksa and prayed for rain. In summer, the fifth month, he died. The posthumous title Beop (法) was offered up.
