Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Biographies The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

1Geodo wipes out two states with a horse game

Of Geodo the clan and the surname are not known, nor what place he was from. He served Talhae Isageum and was given the rank of gan.

At that time the state of Usisan and the state of Geochilsan lay wedged along the border, and they were a great trouble to the country. Geodo was a border officer, and he secretly held a purpose of swallowing them up. Once every year he gathered a herd of horses on the plain of Jangto, had the soldiers mount them, and made them gallop as a sport. The people of that time called it magi (馬技). The people of the two states grew used to the sight, took it for a common thing of Silla, and did not think it strange. Then he raised his troops and horses, struck where they did not look for it, and wiped out the two states.
