The master Yeombul.
On the eastern slope of Namsan there is Piri Village (避里村), and in the village there is a temple, named Pirisa after it.
At the temple there was a strange monk who would not tell his name or clan.
He always chanted to Amitabha, and his voice was heard throughout the city.
In the three hundred and sixty wards (坊) and one hundred and seventy thousand households there was no one who did not hear the sound, and the voice had neither high nor low but rang clear and even, always the same.
For this they thought him strange, and there was none who did not pay him reverence, and all called him the master Yeombul, the master who chants the Buddha's name.
After his death his true likeness was molded in clay and enshrined in Minjangsa, and Pirisa, where he had lived, was renamed Yeombulsa.
Beside the temple there is another temple named Yangpisa (讓避寺), which took its name from the village.
