Wang Ocheonchukguk Jeon (Memoir of the Pilgrimage to the Five Regions of India) Complete in one volume The travel record of Hyecho, a monk of Silla, who at about twenty walked forty countries of India and the Western Regions and set down what he saw. It was lost for more than a thousand years and was found again in 1908 in the caves of Dunhuang, as a damaged scroll. Five poems in five-word lines, longing for home, are carried in it.

1The naked ascetics

〈上缺〉寶赤足裸形外道不著〈下缺〉。

2They keep no fast

逢食即喫亦不齋也。地皆平〈下缺〉。

When they come upon food they eat at once, and they keep no fast (齋). The land is all level 〈The text breaks off here. What followed has not survived.〉

3The crime of selling a person

有奴婢將賣人罪。與煞人罪不殊〈下缺〉。

Whoever keeps slaves, or sells a person, is punished for that crime no differently from the crime of killing a person 〈The text breaks off here. What followed has not survived.〉
