Again from this country of Lampa I went into the mountains, and after eight days' journey I reached the country of Gyebin (罽賓國). This country too is under the rule of the king of Gandhara. In summer this king is in Gyebin and stays there to follow the cool; in winter he goes to Gandhara and stays to follow the warmth. In Gandhara there is no snow and it is warm and not cold, while in the country of Gyebin the snow piles up in winter, and for that reason it is cold.
The native people of this country are Hu (胡), and the king and his troops are Turks. The dress, the speech and the food are much the same as in the country of Tokhara (吐火羅國), with small differences. Men and women alike all wear wool shirts, trousers and boots, and there is no difference between the clothing of men and women. The men cut their beards and hair, and the women let their hair grow.
The land yields camels, mules, sheep, horses, asses, cattle, wool cloth, grapes, barley and wheat, saffron (欝金香) and the like.
The people of the country revere and believe in the Three Jewels greatly, and there are many monasteries and many monks, and every house among the people builds its own monastery and makes offerings to the Three Jewels. In the great city there is one monastery, named Sahye Monastery (沙糸寺). In the monastery there is now a relic of the Buddha's topknot bone (螺髻骨舍利), and the king, the officials and the people make offerings to it every day. This country practises the Lesser Vehicle.
They too live in the mountains, and on the mountains there are no plants and no trees, so that they look just like a mountain burned by fire.
