Wang Ocheonchukguk Jeon (Memoir of the Pilgrimage to the Five Regions of India) Complete in one volume The travel record of Hyecho, a monk of Silla, who at about twenty walked forty countries of India and the Western Regions and set down what he saw. It was lost for more than a thousand years and was found again in 1908 in the caves of Dunhuang, as a damaged scroll. Five poems in five-word lines, longing for home, are carried in it.

又從葱嶺步入一月。至疎勒。外國自呼名伽師祇離國。此亦漢軍馬守促。有寺有僧。行小乘法。喫肉及葱韮等。土人著疊布衣也

Again from Congling I went in on foot for a month and reached Kashgar (疎勒). In other countries they call it by their own name, the country of Gasagiri (伽師祇離國). Here too the troops of Han keep guard. There are monasteries and there are monks, and they practise the Law of the Lesser Vehicle. They eat meat, onions, leeks and the like. The natives wear clothes of wool cloth.
