The Country of Dalajian呾剌健國
Da Tang Xiyu Ji (Great Tang Records on the Western Regions) Book 1 The record Xuanzang laid before Emperor Taizong of the Tang after seventeen years of walking through the Western Regions and India, a hundred and thirty-eight countries in all. It is the stuff from which Journey to the West was made, but what stands here is not monsters — it is the compass and the climate and the speech and the faith of one country after another. The road runs two hundred years after Faxian and eighty years before Hyecho.
呾剌健國。東西五百餘里。南北五六十里。國大都城周十餘里。西接波刺斯國界。
The country of Dalajian is more than five hundred li from east to west and fifty or sixty li from north to south. The great capital city of the country is more than ten li around. To the west it touches the border of the country of Bolasi.
從縛喝國南行百餘里至揭職國。
From the country of Fuhe, going south more than a hundred li, one comes to the country of Jiezhi.
