Da Tang Xiyu Ji (Great Tang Records on the Western Regions) Book 11 The record Xuanzang laid before Emperor Taizong of the Tang after seventeen years of walking through the Western Regions and India, a hundred and thirty-eight countries in all. It is the stuff from which Journey to the West was made, but what stands here is not monsters — it is the compass and the climate and the speech and the faith of one country after another. The road runs two hundred years after Faxian and eighty years before Hyecho.
The country of Zhizhituo is more than four thousand li around. The great capital city of the country is fifteen or sixteen li around. The soil is called rich and fat, and what is sown and reaped grows well. The land suits beans and barley, and there are many flowers and fruits. The seasons are even and mild, and the people are good and gentle by nature. They believe much in the ways of others and revere the Law of the Buddha but little. The monasteries are several tens, and there are few monks. The temples of the gods are more than ten, and the followers of other ways are more than a thousand. The king is of Brahman stock. He believes in the Three Jewels with a full heart and holds men of virtue in honor, and so scholars of wide learning from many regions gather in great number in this country.
從此北行九百餘里,至摩醯濕伐羅補羅國。
Going north from here more than nine hundred li, one comes to the country of Moxishifaluobuluo.
